Indonesian developer, Gaco Games has released its Action RPG called Epic Conquest. It has an intense gameplay that will give you nostalgic feels with PSX era.
There are many Action RPG (ARPG) designed specifically for smartphones. One main rule is, this mobile ARPG should be compatible with mobile gamers’ behavior who don’t have so much time for playing. Implementing an Auto Play feature is one of them, so the game can be played while the gamers do something else, like working or studying.
But sometimes that feature ruins the essentials of Action RPG: full action, fast paced, and intense gameplay. So, Gaco Games from Central Java, Indonesia released a new game called Epic Conquest that brings back classic Action RPG taste with no Auto Play features.
Epic Conquest‘s Story is set on a fantasy world that is apparently invaded by demons through a dimensional portal. The demon invasion leads all kingdoms to unite as one — the Alliance, to battle the demon force and bring back the peace. Many years have passed, half breed between human and demon is inevitable. Those half breed — called “the Witch”, are hunted down by the Alliances because they see the witches as a great threat to mankind.
In this game, you will play as Alaster, The Royal Knight that uses melee combat with great defense and countering skill. And also, Edna, The Flame Witch that uses ranged attack with fiery skills. Each has their own unique personality that you can discover throughout their journey.
No Auto Play, Intense Battle
Without Auto Play feature, it means that you must stick to the screen while playing. You can choose to play one of the two main characters in this game: Alaster who can use melee attack and Edna who can use ranged fire attack.
In the bottom left corner, you can see a virtual D-Pad that you can use to move your character. You can unleash your skill using the series of virtual buttons on the bottom right. Also, there is a dodge button that you can use to dodge the enemy’s attack. As long as you attack and receive damage, your special gauge will fill up. If the gauge is full, it will gives your character some buff like increased attack speed and damage.
The enemy will come in waves. After you defeat all monsters in a single wave, you will face the next wave with more powerful monsters. At the end of the level, you will face a boss that has a special move pattern that you can learn and use it to your advantage.
The levels come in three variations of difficulty: Normal, Hard and Hell. You can unlock the Hell difficulty in each level after you finish the Normal and Hard ones.
Epic Conquest offers a solid and intense gameplay with no auto play feature. Unfortunately, I think the pace is not as fast as the other mobile action RPGs. The control is great and solid, but sometimes it delays a little when you unleash a skill. The dodge movement is also quite slow, so you must count the time precisely if you want to dodge an attack. And also sometimes the character moves by itself after you unleash an attack.
But if you search an action RPG that gives you a nostalgic feel, Epic Conquest is your choice.
Great Graphics, Stable Framerate
Epic Conquest has a beautiful and old-school 3D graphic that might reminds you of the PSX era. The graphic looks solid, and the framerate is very stable even in an intense battle with many monsters. Unfortunately in some levels, you can see the environment looks so deserted. Not much details, and maybe will make you bored after hours of playing it. The skill’s effect is also minimalist.
But the minimalist graphic also gives advantages in the application size. With under 70MB application download and no need for update before playing, surely Epic Conquest is a great deal for the Action RPG lovers.
The sound is minimalist, too. Even in the first battle, there is no background music that makes the battle feels “quiet” and maybe won’t make you feel engaged with the battle at the first time.
Basic but Solid RPG Features
This game also has a basic but solid RPG features that come quite solid like attribute system, skill system and crafting. In attribute system, you can learn new abilities and increase four different attributes freely as you level up.
For the Skill System, each active skill can be leveled up every time it’s used. And also, you can choose any passive skill to maximize, to met your certain builds using mastery point.
For the Crafting, there are four different systems. Those are:
- Dismantle: Convert unused equipment into materials to crafting or upgrading greater equipment
- Appraise: Find out Hidden attributes in equipment or change it to your desired attributes
- Upgrade: Enhance equipment power and effectiveness until the tier’s limit.
- Craft: Create better gears to help your journey (Common, Rare, and Epic tier available)
Updates are Incoming!
In the World Map, you can see that there is a dark area in the upper side. It has text that reads “Preparing Update (Est. November 2017).” So, if you already finished the first area (and completed all the difficulties), you should wait for the update.
It will be great also if the developers add some additional features for this game. A pet system maybe? New character with archer class? Or enhanced version of the Crafting System? That kind of updates will surely make the players wanting to play this game more and more.
Epic Conquest is a great mobile game to bring back nostalgic feel about classic action RPG. Great old school graphic with stable framerate, solid gameplay, and basic but solid RPG features make this game great choice for every action RPG lover. So no doubt if the game gets more than 100.000 downloads in Google Play Store and lay in the top list in trending RPG category.
