The growth of a country’s industry can be measured by the number of events related to that industry that is held annually. The same rule applies in the game industry. So let’s see some of the existing gaming events in Indonesia.

Gaming events can be a measure of the size of a country’s game market and industry. Five years ago, there were only one or two big gaming events annually held in Indonesia. In the last year, at least based on our data, there are five gaming events that were held in Indonesia. It’s a sign of progress and expansion of market and industry.

BEKRAF Game Prime

BEKRAF Game Prime, previously known as Game Developer Gathering (GDG), was first started as a hangout and sharing session by a number of game developers in Jakarta. It was then changed from coffee shop chit chats into a full-fledged developer gathering and seminars.

In its first years, GDG was held annually on campuses. Until 2016, it changed its name to Game Prime due to some reasons. It also has full backing and sponsorship from BEKRAF (Indonesia Creative Economy Agency), thus, the name BEKRAF Game Prime. It was attended by more than 4000 people and was held in Balai Kartini Jakarta. This year, it was held for three days and is recorded as an all-time high of over 13,000 attendances.

BEKRAF Game Prime consists of game developer seminars and networking on the first day. On the second and third day, there are game exhibitions, tournaments (Dota 2, AoV, and PES 2017), artist booths, etc.

Jakarta Game Fest

Jakarta Game Fest (JGF) is an event that is organized by Advanced Guard. It was first held in 2016 in Kuningan City Hall. This event has main attractions like Abuget Cup which is a popular fighting game tournament in Indonesia. In 2016, JGF was attended by approximately 3000 attendees a total prize of USD3,000.

In 2017, JGF expanded their event and held Jakarta Game Week (JGW) last July. As always, Abuget Cup is also around and now it is also a part of Tekken World Tour and Capcom Pro Tour, also with total prize of USD3,000.

JGW was also attended by international players like Daigo and Tanukana and indeed favored by hardcore fighting game players. There were 1958 attendants that came to JGW 2017.

Indonesia Games Championship

Indonesia Games Championship (IGC) was held for the first time in April 2017. It was conducted by Telkomsel, one of the biggest telecommunication providers in Indonesia. This event consists of many eSport games competitions such as Point Blank, Dota 2, Mobile Legends, Vainglory, Clash Royale, and more.

The prize pool from IGC was regarded as one of the biggest in Indonesia, reaching Rp400 million (approximately US $30,000).

Jogja Gamer Show

Jogja Gamer Show (JGS) brings gaming excitement to Yogyakarta, one of the biggest cities in Central Java region. JGS brings many online game tournaments from local and international publishers such as League of Legends, Closers, Dota 2, CS:GO, and many more.

IN.GAME Festival

IN.GAME Festival, the abbreviated version of Indie Games Festival, is an annual event for indie game developers in Indonesia. It is an exhibition and seminar event that is organized by GameLan, a game developer community from Yogyakarta. Last year there were approximately 50 indie game developers.
