There are a lot of Indonesian games released in 2017. Some of them marked their names in history, and others set a new bar for the quality.

At the end of this year, Gameprime.org chose 10 best Indonesian games that were released in 2017. This list is written not in order of ranking.

Fallen Legion (Mintsphere)

When we talk about the best game made by Indonesian developer in 2017, Fallen Legion should be on top of our mind. This game already left a mark in gaming industry’s history as the first PS4 game developed by Indonesian. This game contains two parts for two different platforms: Sins of an Empire for PS4 and Flame of Rebellion for PS Vita.

Later on, Mintsphere announced that they will also release Fallen Legion on other platforms, such as PC and Nintendo Switch.

In Sins of Empire, you will play as Princess Cecille. You will be accompanied by her army called grimoire on a journey to restore the glory for the Fenumian Empire.  Flames of Rebellion complements the story.

First Impression and Interview on This Year’s Indonesia Game of the Year: Fallen Legion

Only one game stands out and worthy of receiving the tagline Game of the Year during Game Prime Awards 2017 and that is Fallen Legion.

This game has a unique approach to battle where you must make a difficult choice in every battle and it can change the way the story goes. It has an action style gameplay where you must dodge or parry at a specific time. You can also make a powerful combo by combining your characters’ attacks.

Djinn Caster (Chocoarts)

Djinn Caster is developed by Chocoarts and was published by KEMCO, a game publisher specializing in mobile RPG such as Alphadia and Aeon Avenger. Different from other RPGs published by KEMCO, Djinn Caster brings a brand new style of middle east RPG.

Like the title said, in this game, you can summon a Djinn to help you win the battle. This game contains more action RPG elements rather than the usual turn-based battle system like other KEMCO’s RPG.

There are more than 20 Djinn varieties that you can collect and summon in the battle. Each Djinn has different power, so you can choose and match them with your playing styles. Besides the main quest, there are also some other sidequests and mini-games that you can finish to get special items.

Raiders Quest (Alkemis Games)

Raiders Quest RPG is a game that marked Alkemis Games’ debut in Indonesian gaming industry. Previously, the game had working title Zero Legend and has been already in the development around three years.

In Raiders Quest, you will begin your journey in Sartosa to fight against an enemy called Void. More than 100 unique heroes from six elements that you can collect and combine to make your team stronger.

This game does not only provide a single player mode. There are some interesting features such as events and special quests that you can do to get special items. Multiplayer is also one of the key aspects of this game, like Guild that you can create with your friends and battle against other guilds online.

Umbra: Amulet of Light (Niji Games)

In Umbra: Amulet of Light, Niji Games from Yogyakarta wants to bring back this kind of block puzzle with yet another different nuance.

In this game, you do not compile the blocks vertically. Instead, you have to compile the shadows, so it will fit the provided patterns. You can slide the blocks in order to make the shadows meet the right patterns on the screen.

This game also made its way to become one of the best mobile games based on Google Play Store. Interestingly, Niji Games is also developing a brand new Umbra game that utilizes the AR feature. They already exhibited it when in Level Up KL 2017 last November.

Almighty (Alegrium)

Almighty comes from Alegrium, the people behind the hit games Icon Pop Quiz and Billionaire.

Almighty Fantasy Clicker Game is not your usual clicker game. You play as an almighty ruler of a well-known realm. However, a catastrophic event nearly destroyed your kingdom. What’s even worse is that there is another entity trying to steal your followers.

Your goal in this game is to make as many people as possible follow and worship you and prove yourself that you are the one and only almighty, ruler of the Realm. But doing so takes time and patience.

King's Play (Mintsphere)

King’s Play combines two elements: puzzle game similar to 2048 and chess to create a unique gameplay.

Forget the competitive element of a versus chess match. In King’s Ploy, you should manage your strategy against yourself to finish the puzzle. This game provides a chess-like board (but with fewer square), complete with its chess pieces.

The main objective of this game is to make King the only chess piece that is left on the gameboard. You can find the variation of the chess pieces, and they will move like the real chess.

With its unique theme, King’s Play won an award, Best Upcoming Games in IMGA SEA 2017 last October.

“Telolet” is one of the phenomenal events happened in late 2016, not only in Indonesia but also in the world. This phenomenon comes from buses’ horn sound that makes kids happy in Indonesia.

That phenomenon inspires LOCOS to make this game, which ha been downloaded million times locally.

CHIPS: Monster Tap (CIAYO Games)

As a clicker game, CHIPS: Monster Tap does not only require you to tap on the screen rapidly. But it also offers a customization gameplay, nice graphic, and an interesting story.

This game has two core gameplay. First, there is a robot building gameplay, which requires you to tap on the screen to finish your robot quickly. The second part of the gameplay is fighting the enemy. Like Tap Titans, you have to tap on the screen to make your robot attacks the incoming enemy.

CHIPS: Monster Tap also nominated in several game awards, such as Indonesia Games Contest 2017 from Google and also SEA Game Awards from Level Up KL 2017.

DreadEye VR (Digital Happiness)

After made a breakthrough with DreadOut, Digital Happiness set a new bar for PC game development by utilizing a VR feature with DreadEye VR.

DreadEye VR is a virtual reality experience that allows you to become a dukun (Indonesian shaman). In this game, you can craft and combine ingredients as you practice an ancient ritual, then open the gate to the spirit realm to commune with the dead.

They designed and developed the game from the ground up for truly immersive atmosphere and gameplay. Digital Happiness said that DreadEye VR is their approach to a truly unsettling, macabre virtual reality experience.

Epic Conquest (Gaco Games)

Gaco Games from Central Java, Indonesia released Epic Conquest that brings back classic action RPG taste with no Auto Play features.

Without Auto Play feature, it means that you must stick to the screen while playing. You can choose to play one of the two main characters in this game: Alaster who can use a melee attack and Edna who can use the ranged fire attack.

This game also has a basic but solid RPG feature that comes quite solid like attribute system, skill system and crafting. With all of this feature, it is no doubt that this game ever placed on the top list in trending RPG category with more than 100.000 downloads until now.
