App Annie has released its annual top 52 mobile publishers in 2017 list. Tencent is still on top, with some new names making their way through this list.
As an annual tradition, App Annie has released its top 52 mobile publishers on this 2017’s list. This list based on the revenue of each publisher combined from two platforms, iOS App Store and Google Play Store.
It is worth to note that the revenue rankings below are based on revenue earned from paid downloads and in-app purchases on the iOS and Android. The rankings do not include revenue earned outside of the app stores such as revenue from in-app advertising, web subscriptions or mobile commerce.
And as a tradition, also, App Annie will create a custom deck of card matching with this top 52 and usually distributes it for free in some international events.
So, who are the top 52 mobile publishers in 2017 according to App Annie? Take a look at the list below.
Tencent is still on top, NetEase jumped to the second place
The giant Chinese company Tencent is still on top followed by NetEase in the second place. Tencent can maintain its position thanks to the success of Arena of Valor (or Honor of Kings) in some countries, including in Indonesia which is published by Garena.
NetEase jumped from third place last year, thanks to Fantasy Westward Journey and some of their battle royale games such as Rule of Survival and Survivor Royale. Aside from MOBA, the battle royale is also one of the most popular genres last year with the rise of PlayerUnknown’s Battleground in PC.
Supercell experiences a huge drop from runner-up last year to the 5th place this year. It is due to the fact that it didn’t release a new big title last year. It still relies on Clash of Clans and Clash Royale to earn around US$2 billion revenue and US$ 810 profit.
Asia companies dominate the top 10
If we look closer on this list, seven out of ten companies who place on top 10 are from Asia. Japan leads with 4 companies, followed by China with 2 companies making the top two. Overall on this list, half of them or 26 companies, to be exact, are Chinese and Japanese companies.
