A new Virtual Reality (VR) game is coming, and it’s no ordinary name. Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR, a game by FoxNext is set to sail on April 3, 2018. What is the game like and is it a new trend, big-name films releasing VR games?
You might have watched Planet of the Apes movies but you probably would not expect it to be in a VR (Virtual Reality) game. Well, FoxNext, a 21st Century Fox Holdings will try its luck in the gaming industry, specifically VR with Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR.
The game itself will be available to play on various VR platforms such as PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive virtual reality headsets.
In this game, you will play as an intelligent ape, five years after the outbreak of the Simian Flu, a tragedy that killed half of humanity and left other primates evolved. Your mission is simple: you will climb jump and obviously shoot your enemies so you can return home to your fellow apes and their ruler, Caesar.
According to Brendan Handler, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the FoxNext VR Studio, VR is a promising platform to bring together a cinematic storytelling of film and the deeply immersive interactivity of games.
Crisis on the Planet Apes will bring players more in touch with the characters and feel as they are part of the story.
From a game industry perspective, we see that a lot of famous films and movies are slowly making their way to VR. For example, Star Wars, The Hunger Games, The Lion King, and many more have become part of VR games.
Digital Happiness, an Indonesia-based studio that is already popular with horror game DreadOut, now released a VR game called DreadEye VR!
We predict that this trend will continue to other blockbuster films that have a fanbase. Do you think the same? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
