Breath of the Wild Racks Up Three Awards in Game Developers Choice Awards 2018

Besides Breath of the Wild, Gorogoa and Cuphead also grabbed more than one award in this event.

Nintendo continues to gain success with its blockbuster, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Now, this action adventure game gets a huge success with three awards in Game Developers Choice Awards 2018, including the most prestigious, Game of the Year 2017.

The Game Developers Choice Awards 2018 is an award held simultaneously with Game Developer Conference (GDC) in Moscone Center, San Francisco.

Breath of the Wild is not the only one that can racks up more than one award in this event. Jason Roberts’ puzzle game, Gorogoa, earned two awards, for Best Mobile Game and the Innovation Award. And also StudioMDHR that got two awards, Best Debut and Best Visual Arts for their creation, Cuphead.

Besides getting the Game of the Year award, Breath of the Wild also got the Best Audio and Best Design award. These awards surely add another achievement for Nintendo that has gotten many awards since last year. Previously, Breath of the Wild won four awards both in Golden Joystick Awards 2017 and DICE Awards 2018 earlier this month.

In addition, to recognize the best game of 2017, Game Developers Choice Awards also honored some individuals who gave a lot contribution to both the game industry and the game developer community. This year’s Ambassador Award goes to Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail. Rami is described as a person who has helped video games to “advance to a better place”.

Another personal award is the Lifetime Achievement Award which goes to Double Fine founder Tim Schafer. Schafer has, for almost three decades, experienced in the game industry, and created many blockbuster titles such as Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Brutal Legend, and Broken Age.

“Every year sees countless amazing games worthy of recognition, but this year, in particular, has seen some of the strongest titles to arrive this generation,” said Katie Stern, General Manager of the Game Developers Conference according to the official statement. “The GDCAs give us an opportunity to reflect on and honor the games that provided us with endless joy,” she continues.

“Congratulations to all of tonight’s nominees and winners and thank you for your creativity and dedication,” she ended.
