Indie game blockbuster! Here are the 20th annual IGF 2018 winners. Some titles also successfully grabbed more than one award. Who are they?
There are some game awards that were held at the same week with Game Developer Conference (GDC) 2018. One of them was Independent Game Festival 2018 (IGF 2018) which gave appreciation to the most revolutionary games made by indie developers.
The IGF 2018 ceremony itself took place on March 21, 2018, and it marked the 20th annual award ceremony since its debut in 1999. Some titles have won multiple awards, such as Night in the Woods (Infinite Fall) that took away Excellence in Narrative and the Seumas McNally Grand Prize award.
Night in the Woods is an adventure game that focuses on exploration, story and character development within a lush, vibrant world. As the Grand Prize winner, Infinite Fall successfully grabbed US$30,000, plus US$3,000 from the Excellence in Narrative award
Another title that gained a big appreciation is Baba is You which went home with Excellence in Design and Best Student Game awards. This game allows players to alter the rules and game logic as a part of solving the puzzles.
Another notable IGF 2018 winner is Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, which successfully grabbed The Nuovo Award. This award is given to a game that jury members describe it “think differently about games as a medium”.
All of the titles, including both IGF 2018 winners and finalists, are playable for any GDC pass holder at the IGF Pavilion located on the GDC Expo Floor in San Francisco’s Moscone Center through Friday, March 23.
