Another Developer Banned From Steam After Fake Reviews

By Muhammad Bilal Syahrir

It’s not the first time that this happened.

Fake reviews on Steam are still seen. This time Polish studio Acram Digital that is guilty. The developers are known for games like Steam: Rails to Riches and Eight-Minute Empire.

Every developer and publisher obviously wants their game to be successful. One of the key indicators of success is from game reviews on Steam. But sometimes, reviewing your own game on Steam is not a good idea.

After finding out that the developer, Grzegorz Kubas had been trying to inflate the user review score for his titles, Valve took an action. Here is its official statement:

We’ve received a number of reports for Steam review manipulation on the titles Steam: Rails to Riches and Eight-Minute Empire, from Acram Digital. After investigating these reports we have found that the developer, Grzegorz Kubas, has been trying to inflate the user review score for his titles. This is against our policy, and something we take very seriously.

Because of Grzegorz’s actions, we have removed all games/DLC developed by Acram from our store, and will no longer be doing business with him. Existing owners will be able to keep their titles.

However, Grzegorz claims that he is the one to blame, not the company, Acram Digital. Also, Acram is planning to convince Valve to put its games back to Steam. Here is the official statement from Grzegorz:

Dear Players,

You are right. I’m guilty. It came from my frustration of few bad, unfair reviews on Valve’s Steam only. It was stupid action, not something planned. This is my individual, bad behavior, not the team, so I would like to blame me, not the devs. It’s a lesson for the rest of my life and it will not happen again, ever.

We have NEVER paid for any positive reviews. It was only my 6 fake accounts on Steam, done in amateur way, from the same computer, the same method of payment, the same IP. I was very frustrated.

We have great developers, passionate in board games. They work very hard to deliver quality games. We listen to the players and we have implemented the features they asked for.

We have sent the email to Valve regarding this issue and we are waiting for the answer.

Blame me, not the devs please.

I’m very sorry,

Grzegorz Kubas

Fake reviews on Steam is not something new. Previously, Insel Games got their games, specifically, Wild Buster scrapped out of Steam removed due to the very same reason.

Valve is very strict with their policy regarding fake reviews. The company feels that it is really disrespectful to other developers and publishers who work hard for their games to be acknowledged.

Valve: “Do Not Review Your Own Game on Steam”

A clear message to all game developers out there: Do not review your own game in Steam. Valve has recently cut ties with a Malta-based developer, Insel Games due to the CEO asking their staffs to review the company's latest game.

In the future, we hope to see developers and publishers minimize these kinds of actions. As it is not good for the culture of the industry.
