The National Basketball Association (NBA) has officially launched its fourth league: NBA 2K League. High expectation flows as it is one of the biggest sports league in the world.
On May 1, 2018, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver officially opened NBA’s new eSport league: NBA 2K League. The league features the same as the real league itself including regular seasons, playoffs and a draft session.
The NBA will work with 2K Games and NBA 2K as its go-to game. The season will run for 17 weeks until August, with a 15-week regular season followed by two playoffs and three independent tournaments, competing for a total prize pool of US$1 million.
What really makes us smile is the support given to the professional players who play in this league.
Out of 30 in the NBA, 17 teams agree to choose six players. Each of those players will receive a salary of between US$32,000 and US$35,000, in addition to their accommodation.
The support also comes from the commissioner himself when stating that the NBA 2K League will be treated like their other leagues. Currently, the NBA has 4 leagues which are: NBA, WNBA, G-League, and NBA 2K League itself.
Aside from Overwatch which is already famous as a well-developed game, the MLS sports league is not so popular globally.
Instead, the NBA is the most popular basketball league in the world. This means that people who love basketball or the NBA will also love the console/PC games. Which is why the NBA 2K League has high hopes.
Overwatch League has just started and it started with a bang! More than 10 million people from all streaming platforms watched the Overwatch League opening week.
We believe that with the prize pool of almost US$1 million, it will be a really competitive and successful league in the future. What do you think?
