On May 10, Konami released its latest financial result up until March 31, 2018. Japanese publisher giant is known for games such as Pro Evolution Soccer and Metal Gear Solid.
The report shows continuous growth from the company. Most notably is the record-breaking operating profits with digital entertainment representing the majority of the company’s revenue.
The total revenue from Konami was US$2.19 billion, 4.2% more than last year. Operations profit, on the other hand, was up 42% from last year with a total of US$413 million. The previous record for operations record was set in 2012 with a total of US$375 million.
Konami’s revenue mostly comes from digital entertainment with US$1.1 billion. From this sector, the revenue was up 13.9% from last year.
Konami’s digital entertainment revenue also included trading card games, particularly the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card game series.
Konami’s focus on domestic mobile games such as Jikkyou Pawafuru Puryoyakyu is one of the reasons why it strives. On the international level, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is an important source of mobile game revenue.
In terms of console platform, the solid and consistent sales of Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 made Konami’s stance even firmer.
On the contrary, Metal Gear Survive which was launched on February 20, 2018, had no track record in terms of revenue. This is probably due to the low review ratings of the game.
In the future, the company hopes to see an overall growth to an operating profit of US$457 million. In terms of digital entertainment, US$1.14 billion in overall revenue that Konami anticipates.
App Annie has released its annual top 52 mobile publishers on this 2017's list. Tencent is still on top while some new names have made their way to be on this list.
Konami is a giant publisher that invests their money on different platforms and games. Although its Metal Gear Survive did not deliver, they still have backups from other games and platforms. This is why big companies are continuing to expand and explore their possibilities.
