Tencent’s Arena of Valor Made US$185 Million in April 2018

By Muhammad Bilal Syahrir

It’s also worth pointing out that Arena of Valor becomes an exhibition tournament in Asian Games 2018. Ultimately, we’re looking forward to seeing a bigger revenue for Tencent.

Tencent is continuing to dominate the mobile game industry. This time, news comes in from one of its top games Arena of ValorArena of Valor made US$185 million in April 2018 alone.

First of all, it’s worth mentioning that we will use Arena of Valor instead of Honor of Kings (its name in the Chinese market).

According to a research from SuperData via Pockegamer.biz, the Chinese-based company made US$185 million in April 2018 only from Arena of Valor. The game was the highest grossing mobile game in the world in that month.

Revenues were up from US$171 million in March 2018 and netted US$149 million in April 2017. We mentioned in the first paragraph that Tencent is dominating the mobile game industry, right?

Arena of Valor Made US$185 Million

Well, here is another fact for you. The second highest grossing mobile game was also a game from Tencent. It’s the racing game QQ Speed. The next title in line would be NetEase’s Fantasy Westward Journey.

We did not see any Lineage II Revolution and Dragon Nest Mobile which were released earlier this year. The two games were quite a hit. Lineage II Revolution is the top rank app in South Korean App Store.

You can see the full mobile chart rankings by earnings in April below.

  1. Honor of Kings (Arena of Valor)
  2. QQ Speed
  3. Fantasy Westward Journey
  4. Clash Royale
  5. Monster Strike
  6. Fate/Grand Order
  7. Pokemon Go
  8. Candy Crush Saga
  9. Onmyoji
  10. Clash of Clans

It’s also worth mentioning that Epic Games’ hit game, Fortnite, is not on the list because there is no data regarding how much it generated from mobile alone. In terms of all platforms, last month they made US$296 million. On March, the total income was US$223.

There are a couple of points that we also want to point out regarding why Arena of Valor is gaining more and more revenue.

Tencent Doubles Its Profit, Thanks to Mobile Games

Chinese publisher Tencent doubles its profit in just three months, ending on December 31st, 2017. One of the causes is its mobile gaming contribution.

One thing for sure is Tencent’s strategy in recruiting and investing in well-known local publishers in each region. Indonesia and Southeast Asia, for example, had Garena as their publisher.

It’s also worth pointing out that Arena of Valor becomes an exhibition tournament in Asian Games 2018. Ultimately, we’re looking forward to seeing a bigger revenue for Tencent.
