Some interesting numbers show up from Superdata. According to the marketing firm, PUBG sold 4.7 million units in June 2018 alone. This makes the second most peak month in terms of sales.
People might sleep on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and look at Fortnite to be the dominant battle royale game. However, data from Superdata shows that PUBG sold 4.7 million units in June 2018 alone.
This is a significant boost compared to May. One thing for sure is that the game is still alive! There was only one month that actually beat the total number of sales, back in October 2017. This info is also quite surprising because PUBG‘s player base has been slowly declining since 2018.
With a good month of selling, this makes PUBG comfortable sit on the 3rd spot for mots grossed PC game in June 2018. It’s a bit different in consoles, however. Their rival Fortnite is still the number 1 rank game whereas PUBG is nowhere to be seen on the list.
One of the major reasons why PUBG could not make the top rank in consoles is probably due to the availability of the game. Fortnite is available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Whereas PUBG is currently only available for PC and Xbox One.
In the mobile side, both games cannot make the top 10 list due to fierce competition from Honour of Kings and QQ Speed. We predict that PUBG and Fortnite will not be as big as it is on PC and consoles. However, there is always a chance.
This game is certainly a phenomenon. Fortnite is the largest free-to-play console game in terms of revenue. It also officially surpasses PUBG.
The month of June itself sees consumer spent US$9.1 billion compared to May with a total amount spent worth US$7.9. Both Mobile and Console revenue increased 23% year-over-year, while Premium PC and Social revenue declined slightly.
