Horror is still one of the most popular genres among Indonesian game developers. Last time, there was Pamali: Indonesian Folklore Horror that came from StoryTale Studios. And now, it’s time for Jakarta-based Hehe Gamez to release its debut horror title on Steam called Incubo.
We’d learned about Incubo since Hehe Gamez was one of the developers who exhibited in BEKRAF Game Prime 2018. Hehe Gamez is a studio established in 2017. Since that time, it has released two games for mobile, and Incubo is the studio’s first PC game and its most ambitious project to date.
Incubo is a side-scrolling 2D platformer that tells a story about a boy who is trapped in his nightmare. In there, he should recollect the memory fragments that will help him finish the nightmare. What will he encounter at the end of his nightmare?
Incubo is not a standard side-scrolling platformer. There are some puzzles limited by time to solve it. If you can’t solve the puzzle at the right time, it’ll drive you to death. For example, in the beginning, you will face a pillar puzzle. You should step on the right pillar to avoid the ghost that will appear when you fall from that pillar.
Talking about ghosts, Incubo provides not only ghosts from Indonesian folklore but also some famous ghosts from around the world. You will face Pocong and Kuyang, as well as Vampire in this game.
As a horror game, Incubo also provides a good atmosphere with a lot of jumpscares. Although some of the characters are recreated as cuter creatures, some of the jumpscare elements are enough to make you scream or at least jump from your chair. It’s all thanks to the background music that helps strengthen the tense atmosphere.
Incubo is now available for PC, and you can buy it on Steam with a price of US$6.99. But if you want to try it first before buy, you can also download the free demo that is also available on its Steam page.
