Nintendo Switch has been getting more attention from Indonesian developers. Many games by Indonesians were released for the console such as Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story, Legrand Legacy, and Rage in Peace. Now, a Bandung based studio MassHive Media is joining the bandwagon by releasing its RPG, Azure Saga: Pathfinder.
This is the second platform for Azure Saga: Pathfinder. Last year, this isometric RPG released on Steam and gained some positive reviews. And now for the Switch version, MassHive Media collaborated with Toge Productions as its publisher.
Azure Saga: Pathfinder is a love letter to classic JRPG with an isometric camera and beautiful hand-drawn art. The game tells about a story in far into the future when the human race survives through colonies scattered across the universe.
One tale gives humanity’s remnants hope – one of the legendary planet, Azure, a world full of life and abundant resources that could bring humanity back from the brink of extinction. You will play as a young scientist, Synch, as he travels across the galaxy to meet new companions and find his father.
The Switch version is the Deluxe Edition. It means that you will get all of the costume pack DLC such as Wild Steampunk Costume and High Crusader Costume.
MassHive Media was one of the Indonesian developers who were part of the Archipelageek delegation in Game Connection America 2019 earlier this month. In that event, the studio introduced its new simulation game about an alchemist with a pixel-art graphic style.
Combat inspired by turn-based classic RPG style
The game uses turn-based style combat that is heavily inspired by classic RPG. The combat style allows you to enter a formation (front, middle, and back) for your team and take turns attacking each other. Each turn you can use various types of attacks and defense.
You have your original attack button, which is pretty much self-explanatory. This is each character’s basic attack. You also have skills attack. This attack allows you to chose which skill you want your character to use.
The unique part of Azure Saga: Pathfinder is its United Skills feature. It combines three skills from your team to one ultra-powerful skill that can damage your opponents, heal team, and take advantage of the situation. To get more details, you can read our review for the PC version here.
We sat down and talked with Andika Pradana, the Creative Director from Masshive Media. He told us a lot about Azure Saga's development story.
