Game Prime is the biggest game exhibition in Indonesia organized by GGWP.ID and Asosiasi Game Indonesia (AGI) annually. The event has run for 4 years, and in 2020, it’ll serve as the 5th anniversary of the said event.
In previous years, Game Prime was attended by thousands of local game developers and game industry practitioners across Indonesia to exhibit and promote their games. Not only that, but they were also able to meet, build networks, share ideas, and discussing new business opportunities with potential partners.
Are you waiting for the next Game Prime? What’s new this time?
This year’s Game Prime 2020 will be held for five days, starting from August 1st to August 5th, 2020, and it comes very differently. Instead of inviting people to come into the venue, this year’s event will be held via online live streaming at GGWP.ID Official Youtube Channel.
Before we talk about the changes in the event, let’s talk about the name changes first.
Name Changes to Baparekraf Game Prime
Some of you might wonder why Game Prime (or Bekraf Game Prime) changes its name? Is there any reason behind the change? Well, here’s your answer.
Before changing its name to Baparekraf, Badan Ekonomi Kreatif (Bekraf) was a non-ministerial government agency responsible in Indonesia’s creative economy sector.
Following the Peraturan Presiden Nomor 70 Tahun 2019 regarding Badan Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif, Presiden Joko Widodo merged the Badan Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif (Baparekraf) under the wing of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Hence, the name changes from Bekraf Game Prime to Baparekraf Game Prime.
Baparekraf Game Prime 2020 is Held Online
For the first time, BGP 2020 will be held online. The reason why it holds online because it’s not preferable and wise to hold an event with the massive amount of visitors gathered in one place during the COVID-19 pandemic for everyone’s safety.
Despite the current pandemic, Game Prime is still committed to supporting local video game and esports industries with Baparekraf Game Prime 2020. We provide a facility for video game developers to introduce their latest creation despite the pandemic, as well as an esports tournament. This time also, the event will hold a charity for COVID-19 victims.
How’s BGP 2020 Progress So Far?
As this article published, BGP 2020 has reached 90% completion, with the venue has been conceptualized following the standard health protocols.
In response to the pandemic, Ricky Setiawan as the CEO of GGWP.ID stated:
“BGP 2020 is the most anticipated event by both game developers and game fans alike. The number of visitors from year to year continues to grow and the enthusiasm also increasing in each event. However, because we’re currently facing the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to turn BGP 2020 into an online event. Although it will come in a different format, the essence remains the same: BGP is the family gathering of Indonesian game developers, where we can gather, meet, and exchange ideas both with developers or directly with gamers from all the country.” said Ricky Setiawan as interviewed last month.
What’s New & What to Expect?
With the event held online, there are some exhibition ideas being archived like Toys Alley, Boardgames Area, Retro Arcade Area, and VR Area. But don’t worry, because this year, Baparekraf Game Prime 2020 will give you more exciting events to enjoy such as PUBG Mobile esports tournament, special classes for video game developers with experienced speakers, Fan Art Competition, Online Exhibitions (yes, you read it right), online minigames where everyone can join like Werewolf, local game tournament, Tebak Gambar on gartic.io, and of course BGP Awards.
